Subject: Neglect of Hockey in our Country
Sir:
I am writing this letter to express my deep concern over the issue of neglect of hockey in our country. Our country people appear to be inordinately enthusiastic and passionate about cricket. The entire focus of all sponsors, creating facilities, and infrastructure is towards cricket primarily.
As a result other sports such as hockey are neglected; hence, India has not achieved much in the field of hockey. There was time in the past when Indian hockey team was considered the best in the world. Hockey maestro, Dhyan Chand was adored all over the world. He was called the hockey wizard. Even Hitler wanted him to play for Germany.
However, over the years hockey supremacy of India fell. Nations such as Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Australia, Argentina, Malaysia, South Korea improved their hockey standards considerably by providing world class facilities to promote this game in their countries.
I appeal to the Government and people to look into it and promote hockey in our country in similar fashion. More facilities must be provided for hockey. I hope you will give enough space to my views in your esteemed daily.
Yours truly,
Arjun
