Letters to save water

Over 500 children gathered at the General Post Office on Sunday for a letter writing competition to raise awareness on water conservation.

Organised by the Bihar circle of India Post, the subject of the contest was “Why water is precious”. The event aimed to encourage youngsters to write more letters.

The event was a part of the nationwide 42nd Letter Writing Competition organised by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the United Nation’s agency for the postal sector.

“Over 500 children from more than 20 schools took part. The best three letters of the country would then be sent to the UPU headquarters in Berne, the capital of Switzerland,” said K.D. Singh, the chief postmaster general, Bihar circle of India Post.

Abhishek Saurav, a Class IX student of Anand International School, said: “A lot of water can be saved in activities like bathing and shaving.”

Payal Pallavi, a Class X student of BD Public School, said: “Letters have a personal touch and can be preserved.”
