As a part of the Swachhata hi Seva campaign being organised from September 11 to October 2, schools students are writing a letter to Mahatma Gandhi on their commitment to cleanliness on September 13 which has been designated as 'Letter Writing Day'. The top letters will be awarded on a national level.
As per a letter from the HRD Ministry dated July 24, all schools and educational institutions across India were tasked to come up with an action plan to observe Swachhata Pakhwada from September 1 to 15.
The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), the nodal Department for Swachhata Pakhwada, had suggested a few activities that could be undertaken for the Swachhata hi Seva campaign among which the letter to Bapu’ initiative was the primary activity.
The letter also suggested adding instructions on avoiding the usage of single-use plastic -- both within and outside the school premises as part of the planned activities.
