Dear Motherland:

I hope this letter finds you progressing and developing. I am writing this letter to thank you from the core of my heart for everything! You have given me the gift of life. I have grown playing in your lap. I can never ever thank you for the friends, wonderful plays, and happy times I had in my childhood. I walk on your surface; I eat the food from your crops; I eat the fruits grown in your orchards, fields, and pastures. Thanks for the sunlight; the rivers, the oceans; snow-capped mountains. I always feel I am closest to you when I am in the mountains. You have been a great motherland. You gave me more than my needs. You gave me a paradise. I am so lucky to have a great motherland like you.

You gave me the gift of education. I was born as a savage; but with the power of education I was transformed into a good human being. In your schools, colleges, and university I gathered the light of knowledge. I learnt lessons of life and rare wisdom from wonderful guides, leaders, masters, writers, great leaders, saints, etc. I thank you for all of them. I take a pledge that I will endeavor to be like a great son of yours. Thanks for the struggles I had to face that made me a better human being. I always felt your loving support whenever I was depressed and despondent. You filled my heart with new hope and strength to carry on and to hold on.

I promise you I will endeavor to bring honor and glory with my sincere efforts. I will remember my responsibilities towards you. As you reared me into young man, I will also look after you when I grow up. I will not do anything that might tarnish your image. I will never forget that you bore sufferings in the shackles of intruders. I will remember you give your everything in nurturing millions of your sons and daughters. Thanks my dear motherland. I love you. May you always prosper and be safe!

Your loving son,

An Indian
