Subject: The Nuisance of Noise and Air Pollution During Diwali
Sir:
I am writing this letter to express my anguish and annoyance over the problem of noise and air pollution during Diwali Celebrations. Burning crackers on festivals and other celebrations causes unprecedented air and noise pollution.
Crackers often contain elements like copper, cadmium, sulphur, aluminium and barium to produce the vibrant colours once ignited. The harmful gases produced from the bursting of crackers, such as Nitrous Oxide, remains in the air for a long time if the city doesn't get enough rain or strong winds. Inhaling the fumes emitted by firecrackers increases the chances of asthma attack among patients. Heart patients and patients of chronic bronchitis and low immune system really have tough time until the toxic air subsides gradually after Diwali.
I appeal to your kind self to look into it and do something in this regard. The general pollution level has already become so critical. Do we need a large scale environmental catastrophe to be careful and wise? Kindly help us remain healthy and wise.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,
Devi Lal
