Subject: The irresponsible and insensitive use loudspeakers.
Sir,
With due respect I would like to bring to your kind attention the problem of irresponsible use of loudspeakers.
First, celebration of festivals are a time of joy that everyone look forward to. Festivals are an inalienable part of our social life. The problem is not celebration of festivals, but the manner in which they are celebrated. The use of loudspeakers during festival seasons need to be restricted.
Second, there are restaurants, cafes and night clubs where loud music is played late into the night in the name of birthday celebrations and parties.
Third, this are all public disturbance and another form of noice pollution. Noise pollution is known to cause headache, irritation, and other problems in a person.
Fourth, the use of loudspeakers in temples and masjids needs to be examined. The volume must be restricted.
Fifth, loudspeakers and loud music are played all day and throughout the whole night. This disturbs the sleep of the public. It interferes with the study times of students. We must also consider the sick people who want quiet time to sleep properly.
Therefore, I feel that the use of loudspeakers and loud music should be banned or restricted in residential areas. Permit must be obtained first from the Deputy Commissioner and granted only if is meant for the good of the general public. There must be a rule specifying a certain time limit beyond which defaulters will be penalised.
Hopefully looking forward to a positive and early action on this matter.
Yours sincerely,
NIRMALA
