Letter to the Editor
With the increase in Indian women working in IT, traditional gender roles
have started to change more rapidly than before. A lot of young women have
adopted the dress and behaviours of their western counterparts. This
change is not appreciated by everyone, however, and some women now
experience negative comments and even harassment because of their
choices.
Taking on the persona of a young person in Bangalore, write a letter to the
editor of a local newspaper in which you defend women's right to dress and
behave as they like.

Sub : Disrespectful behaviour of people regarding the choice of a women.

Respected Sir,

Through the esteemed column of your newspaper , I Antara Sharma would like to draw the attention of the authorities and general public towards the nonsense mentality of people in our society.

Kalpana Chawla , Born in 17th march , 1962 was the first Indian women to go to space out there. Indra Nooyi , a women. Arundhati Roy , Mary Kom , all were women and an Indian too. Still , they had touched heights. In today's era , when there is a neck to neck competition between women and men both, then why still such conservative thinking of cheap dressing sense is still taken into account ? And it's one of the reason why India is still a devaloping country. Just like everyone has the right of life , liberty and security. There is no separate rules for womens in the judiciary , even they do. Even after so many sayings , protests lead by people , same issue of questioning a women's dignity is continued. People are screaming over roads , and leading many such campaigns which favours to respect a women's dignity. But irony is no such campaigns can actually help them unless this substandard behaviour and mentality of people changes.

In our area , women are said to wear so called formal dress which are a kind of western style. this formality is taken as a thing to criticize women on. And people who couldn't themselves progress, question on such dressing sense. Few people are just too forgotten of humanity who starts to harass a women looking at what kind of dress she is wearing.

The constitution of India itself guarantees equal protection to all and forbids the state from depriving anybody's life and liberty. Social justice is the base of our Constitution. then I ask , who are we to defy these laws ? A women is free too imply there choices to life regardless to society's judgment and decision.

Thankyou

Yours sincerely

Antara Sharma
