Hope this helps you..
Leucocytes or WBC or White Blood Corpuscles are cells produced by Myeloid progenitor of bone marrow.
There are five types of leucocytes.
1.Neutrophils:
These constitute about 50-60 percent of WBC in human.
These are the first cells to arrive at the site of injury.
They have azurophilic granules that contain peroxidases and hydrolytic enzyme.
These enzymes are helpful in destroying pathogenic bacteria and phagocytosis takes place.
2.Eosinophils:
These constitute about 1-3 percent of WBC in human.
Their primary function is to kill large extracellular parasites or worms.
They are also involved in allergic reactions.
3.Basophils:
These constitute less than 1 percent of WBC in human.
They contain azurophilic granules.
They are involved in allergic responses.
4.Monocytes:
Cells contain lysosomes that possess acid hydrolysase and peroxidases.
Phagocytosis of pathogen is its primary function.
5.Lymphocytes:
They are significant cells which are involved in phagocytosis.
All these functions of WBCs confer a strong immunity to humans and Hence WBC can be called as soldiers of our body.
