 \alpha  +  \beta  =  - \frac{b}{a}

 \alpha  +  \beta  =   \frac{6}{ 1}

Given:

2( \alpha  +  \beta )  +  \alpha  = 20

(2 \times 6) +  \alpha   = 20

 \alpha  = 8

f( \alpha ) = 0

64 - 48 + a = 0

Therefore,

a =  - 16
