Hence:

x + ( x + 50 ) = 180  

Open the brackets and simplify.

x + x + 50 = 180

2 x + 50= 180

Subtract  50  from each side.

2 x = 180 − 50

2 x = 130

Divide both sides by  2

 x = 130 /2

x = 65
