LET ASSUME THAT THE SIDE OF THE SQUARE IS 'a'.

now the area of the square with the side length 'a' is

Area=a^2

now the area become half..... then the side length become a/2

Area become= (a ^2)/4

the area so formed is 1/4th the original area....
