1) 56 minutes, 2) 3 tyres.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

Number of tyres = 4

Number of van = 1

Time taken = 56 minutes

We need to find the time for 12 tyres  to three vans

So, it becomes,

\dfrac{1\times 56}{4}=\dfrac{3\times x}{12}\\\\x=56

2) if he works for 42 minutes how many tyres can he fit?

\dfrac{56}{4}=\dfrac{42}{x}\\\\14=\dfrac{42}{x}\\\\x=3

Hence, 1) 56 minutes, 2) 3 tyres.
