Solution-

(First Situation)

Time taken by the bus to cover the distance=4hr 20min

=4hr+20min

=(4×60)min+20min

=240min+20min

=260min

Average speed of the bus=60km/hr

Distance covered by the bus=Total time taken×Average speed

=260min×60km/hr

=260min×(60/60)km/min

=260 min×1km/min

=260×1km

=260km

(Second situation )

Distance to be covered=Same as before

=260km

Current speed= 40 km/hr

Time taken=Distance/speed

=260km/(40km/hr)

=260km×hr/40km

=260×hr/40

=(260/40)hr

=6.5hr

Ans.:The bus will require 6.5hr minimum.
