Answer:

My favorite poem:

Life by Henry Van Dyke

EVEN more language analysis

There are many usage of alliterations in the poem such as ' happy heart'.The effect of this is that even though the two words are very positive, the alliteration helps it by adding more effect into it as the two h sounds makes the words much more pleasing to the ear and help us grasp a better view of it

There are points that two words with opposite meaning are put next to each other such a Youth and Age.This is done as the two put together shows a better contrast of the two concepts.

Further analysis of the language

Usage of Language

The usage of words in relation with 'S'es and the sh sound may emphasize on the fact that the sound it make is in close relation with lullabies which makes it sounds soothing due to it being soft and calming

Simple words that has 1 syllable such as joy are used in conjunction with words that are not monosyllable such as adventure, the effect of this is that it adds variety and fluctuation in the poem which adds more to the whole theme of how life have ups and downs and comes in many varieties and ways.

The language used here are quite simple

Soothing and soft words are used such as friendship, smooth, sought and soul.

This emphasizes on the fact that the journey of life is an enjoyable one and is best to accept what it have to offer rather than going against it

Main Concepts/ideas

Style and Rhythm

The journey of life

How life can have both ups and downs(just like a hill)

You can't just go back in life, the only thing you can do is to face it head on

Life may contain many hardship but is very rewarding due to the sense of adventure it contains

We won't know what the future got in store for us

Structure

Let me but live my life from year to year,

With forward face and unreluctant soul;

Not hurrying to, nor turning from the goal;

Not mourning for the things that disappear

In the dim past, nor holding back in fear

From what the future veils; but with a whole

And happy heart, that pays its toll

To Youth and Age, and travels on with cheer.

So let the way wind up the hill or down,

O'er rough or smooth, the journey will be joy:

Still seeking what I sought when but a boy,

New friendship, high adventure, and a crown,

My heart will keep the courage of the quest,

And hope the road's last turn will be the best.

The poem is written more of a speech than a poem judging by how it is structured and how each lines flow into one another.

For example

'So let the way wind up the hill or down, O'er rough or smooth, the journey will be joy:

Still seeking what I sought when but a boy, '

No change or interruption in the flow of the entire poem. This may be intentional to emphasize on how the flow of life and time cannot be stop and it just continues forward

The poem contains 2 stanzas, second is a continuation of the first.

The rhyme scheme is nothing out of ordinary, a normal ABBAACCA for the first stanza and DEEDFF for the second.

This may be to emphasise on the fact that yet again the journey of life is simple and flows without stops.

The reason it is so short may signifies how life can be easily explained but too enjoy it to its maximum potential, experiencing it yourself is a much better idea.
