- Microbes are microscopic, single-celled organisms like bacteria and fungi. Although they are often associated with dirt and disease, most microbes are beneficial. For example, microbes keep nature clean by helping break down dead plants and animals into organic matter.
- Microorganisms are divided into seven types: bacteria, archaea, protozoa, algae, fungi, viruses, and multicellular animal parasites ( helminths ). Each type has a characteristic cellular composition, morphology, mean of locomotion, and reproduction.
- Microbes are tiny living things that are found all around us and are too small to be seen by the naked eye. They live in water, soil, and in the air. The human body is home to millions of thesemicrobes too, also calledmicroorganisms. Some microbes make us sick, others are important for our health.
