Lift an object up. Work is done by the force exerted by you on the object. The object moves upwards. The force you exerted is in the direction of displacement. However, there is the force of gravity acting on the object.

Which one is doing negative work?Give reasons.?

Answer:

So if an object of mass m is raised through a height h, the work done on the object is equal to mgh, and so this amount of energy is transferred to the object. (Notice that this equation is identical to the one describing an object falling under gravity, Equation 7.)

when we lift object upward the work is done negatively.. it it is because gravitational force is acting opposite to it
