Ligase enzyme is used for joining bits of DNA.

* It has a major role in DNA replication as well as DNA repair as it helps in joining smaller DNA fragments.

* During DNA replication, it joins the Okazaki fragments in the lagging strand synthesis.

* It functions by the formation of a bond between deoxyribose group on one strand and the phosphate group on the other.
