The chapter Light - Reflection and Refraction was one of my favorite chapters in class 10 as it was completely based on practical . Now to your answer -
Use a sharp pencil , a compass and a ruler to make diagram as it will look neat and clean
Most important is that you learn the tables for image formation by concave and convex mirrors and lenses given in ncert book .
Make sure to mark the direction of incident ray and reflected ray .
Make the curve of mirror or lens ( using compass ) big enough so that you can mark all lines and arrows .
Never ever draw any diagram free hand .
Make sure that your diagram looks just as what is there in your book .
Remember all positions and sizes of images formed .
Always take the length of the object as 1cm in every case .
Follow sign conventions . For +ve signs use the upper part and for -ve signs use the lower part of the normal ( or vice versa , it's your choice ) .
And at last , practice a lot because construction of these diagrams will be surely asked and you can get marks easily .
