angle of incident= i
angle of reflection= r
refractive index= n

Sin i = n Sin rIf the ray is to be reflected from the surface perpendicular to AB

Sin (90 – r) = Cos r >= 1/n (1)(1 – S2irn)1/2 >= 1/n1 + S2i n< =2n

The largest value of Sin2i = 1Hence n 2 >= 2n = 2½
