Light energy is absorbed by the chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll is the green pigment which plays a vital role in absorbing heat energy from the sun
This process is known as photosynthesis.

About Photosynthesis:-
Photosynthesis :- Photosynthesis is the process in which plants prepare their own food with the help of water and carbon dioxide in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll.
There are different steps of photosynthesis. They are:-
- The very first step of photosynthesis is the Absorption of light energy by chlorophyll.
- Then Conversion of light energy to chemical energy and splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.
- And finally, Reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrate.
The byproduct formed in this process are glucose [which is stored by the plants in the form of starch] and oxygen which is released by the stomata of the leaves.
About stomata in plants:-
Functions of stomata are as follows:-
- Helps in gaseous exchange. The guard cells open to release oxygen and to absorb carbon dioxide.
- It opens to absorb heat energy from sunlight.
- It helps in releasing of water during the process of photosynthesis.
