Answer:

Given -

Wavelength of light in water = 4000A°

wavelength of light in glass = 2500A°

To find - Refractive index of glass with respect to water

Solution -

\mu = \frac{ \lambda(1)}{ \lambda(2)}μ=

λ(2)

λ(1)

then substituting the values we get

\mu = \frac{4000}{2500}μ=

2500

4000

therefore Refractive index of glass is

\mu(g) = 1.6μ(g)=1.6

Answer:

The Refractive index of glass with respect to water is 1.125.

Explanation:

Given that,The wavelength of light in water is 4500A* and the wavelength of light in glass is 4000A*.We are required to find the refractive index of glass with respect to water.

The refractive index of glass with respect to water is the ratio of wavelength of light in water to the wavelength of light in glass.Hence, mathematically we write

\mu_{gw}=\frac{\lambda_{lw}}{\lambda_{gw}}

The given wavelength in numerical form are written as shown-

\lambda_{lw}=4500A* \\ \lambda_{gw}=4000A*

Substituting the above values in the refractive index relation,we get

\mu_{gw}=\frac{4500}{4000} =1.125

Therefore, the refractive index of glass with respect to water is 1.125
