Given : wavelength of light, λ = 500 nm

width of slit, d = 0.1 mm

width of central bright line on the screen, y = 2m

To find : the distance of the screen from the slit.

solution : using formula, width of central Maxima, y = 2λD/d

⇒D = yd/2λ

= (2 m × 0.1 mm)/(2 × 500 nm)

= (2 × 10¯⁴)/(10¯⁶)

= 200 m

Therefore the distance of the screen is 200m from the slit.
