This is one of the poems published in Geetanjali of Rabindranath Tagore.  It is known as poem of the soul because he yearns for the divinity to engulf him and the delay is causing this agony.

In the first stanza he questions “Where is the light” meaning where is the divine? He says the heart to keep it burning with the desire to be one with the light otherwise, he says death will be much better than to suffer without the light.

The poet is speaking to the Heart and he says that God is ever wakeful and is calling you to come to the meeting place which is filled with love even though you are filled with misery and darkness.

The poet feels that he is not able to decipher the meaning of that which is stirring inside him and it is raining out ceaselessly and the clouds are dark.  This is suffering felt by the poet for the divine.  He was in the midst of storm in the ship when he felt the call of divine.

The poet then goes on to express that one lightening from The Divine drags the gloom to deep down and immediately the heart gropes for the path where the music is being played.

In the last stanza, the poet says though the night is pitch dark, like a black stone and the wind is blowing through the hollow; keep the light of the heart burning with desire and with love of one’s life.
