Activity 10.1 asks us to observe the image on a large spoon.

Observation:

The image at the concave side of the spoon is real, inverted and diminished. When we move away from the spoon it also becomes smaller.

The image at the convex side of the spoon is virtual, erect and diminished. When we move away from the spoon rate of reduction in size is more.

Explanation:

A spoon acts as a concave mirror from its front side, and as a convex mirror from the back side. When we look at a spoon our distance from the spoon is around 1 foot which is more than the focal length of the spoon. Here the image is smaller.
