Correct question :

Light travels through water with a speed of 2.25 × 10 m/s. What is the refractive index of water?

Given

● Light travels through water (speed) = 2.25 × 10⁸ m/s

To find

Refractive index of water

Solution

Here speed of light in water (v) = 2.25 × 10⁸ m/s

We know, speed of light in vacuum(c) = 3 × 10 m/s

Using the formula :

⋆ Refractive index = Speed of light in vacuum/Speed of light in medium

⋆ n = c/v

Putting values we get :

⇒ n = (3 × 10⁸)/(2.25 × 10⁸)

⇒ n = 3/2.25

n = 1.33

Refractive index of water = 1.33
