Aim: To show that light travels in straight line.

Materials: Candle, rubber tube, table.

Procedure:

1. Place the lighted candle on the table.

2. Take the rubber tube and use it to view the candle.

3. Close one eye and try to look at the flame of the candle with the other eye.

4. Now bend the straw. Once again look the flame.

Observation: We observe that when the tube is bent, the flame cannot be seen. This proves that light travels in straight line.

This property of light to travel in straight line is known as rectilinear propagation of light.
