Let's consider Lily's age as x

So Lily's mother's age would be 8x

Ater five years their ages will be (x+5) and (8x+5) respectively

According to question it is saying that after five years Lily's mother's age would be 5 years more than her daughter's age .

Inputting it into equation ;

{4(x+5)} +5 = 8x+5

4x + 20 +5 = 8x+5

4x+25 = 8x+5

Transposing similar terms on same sides :

4x-8x = 5-25

-4x = -20

Cancelling negative sign from both sides

4x=20

x = 20/4 =5

Their present ages are 'x' and '8x' respectively

::Inputting value of x

x= 5 years and 8x= 8×5 = 40 years
