\lim_{x \to 1} \frac{x^4-1}{x-1}\\\implies\lim_{x \to 1}\frac{(x^2-1)(x^2+1)}{x-1}\\\implies\lim_{x \to 1}\frac{(x+1)(x-1)(x^2+1)}{x-1}\\\implies\lim_{x \to 1}(x+1)(x^2+1)\\\implies (1+1)(1^2+1)\\\implies2\times2\\\implies 4

The answer is 4

Hope it helps :-)
