Lime water cannot be used as a test to distinguish between carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide. Why ?

it cannot be used for the purpose as both of them gives a white turbid ppt.
though after excess passage of the CO2 in the respective solutions...the one with radical SO3^2- turbiditydissolves a bit gradually.
