1. Lime water traditionally means a weak solution of alkali calcium hydroxide Ca(HO)₂
2. When CO₂ is passed through lime water it reacts with calcium hydroxide to form insoluble particulates of calcium carbonate.
3. Calcium carbonate is weak base and this gives a milky white impression.
CO₂ + Ca(HO)₂ = CaCO₃ ↓ + H₂O
4. Hence lime water turns milky when you blow air from your mouth into it.
