When CO 2

passes through lime water, it turns into milky lime water due to formation of insoluble calcium carbonate.

Ca(OH) 2 +CO 2

Ca(OH) 2 +CO 2 ⇌CaCO 3

Ca(OH) 2 +CO 2 ⇌CaCO 3 (+)+H 2 OIOf CO 2

is passed for longer period, turbidity disappears due to form of soluble calcium bicarbonate.

CaCO 3 +H 2O+CO 2 ⇌Ca(HCO 3 ) 2 .
