Explanation:

1) it was applicable upto calcium only.after calcium the first and eight element did not possess similar properties.

2) It was assumed that only 63 element existed in nature and no new element would be discovered in the future.but later on several new elements were discovered whose properties did not fit in the law of octave.

3) some similar elements have been separated from one another while some dissimilar elements have been placed in the same column.
