Answer:

A Lindlar catalyst is a heterogeneous catalyst that consists of palladium deposited on calcium carbonate which is then poisoned with various forms of lead or sulphur. It is used for the hydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes (i.e. without further reduction into alkanes) and is named after its inventor Herbert Lindlar.

Explaination;

U take a barium sulphate crystal and coat it will palladium. Now palladium is a good adsorber of hydrogen and has very high catalytic properties.

If used directly this catalyst will hydrogenate alkynes directly to alkanes..bu t we use quinoline as a catalytic poison to control this reaction.

Hence lindlars catalyst is Pd/BaSO4 and quinoline.
