SOLUTION

TO EXPRESS

Linear equation ax + by = c in the form of

y = mx + b

1. 3x + 4y = 8

2. 16x + 9y = 40

3. 10x + 3y = 2

EVALUATION

1. Here the given equation is

3x + 4y = 8 ............. (1)

Which is of the form ax + by = c

The equation can be rewritten as below :

4y = - 3x + 8

  \displaystyle\implies \sf{ y = -  \frac{3}{4} x + 2 }

Which is of the form y = mx + b

2. Here the given equation is

16x + 9y = 40 ............. (2)

Which is of the form ax + by = c

The equation can be rewritten as below :

9y = - 16x + 40

  \displaystyle\implies \sf{ y = -  \frac{16}{9} x +  \frac{40}{9}  }

Which is of the form y = mx + b

3. Here the given equation is

10x + 3y = 2 ............. (2)

Which is of the form ax + by = c

The equation can be rewritten as below :

3y = - 10x + 2

  \displaystyle\implies \sf{ y = -  \frac{10}{3} x +  \frac{2}{3}  }

Which is of the form y = mx + b
