Linear pair of angles are always adjacent angles but the adjacent angles need not to form a linear pair.
This is because if you look at the pic I uploaded, you will come to know that a linear pair of angles is formed when we join two adjacent angles in such a way that their opposite angles form 180°. Whereas, for formation of an adjacent angle, no such condition is required. You can understand it better using the picture that in the linear pair, there are two adjacent angles but in case of adjacent angles, there is no linear pair. This is true for all.
