Linear pair of angles are always supplementary . but supplementary angles need not to form a linear pair .why?

Linear pair of angles have one arm common but it is not necessary that supplementary angles will have one arm common

linear pair means that there are two angles on a line. the sum of angles on line is 180.
supplementary angles is no. angles on a line
whose sum is 180.
supplementary angle have variable no. of angles whereas linear pair have only two angle.
