Unlike latitude lines longitude lines are not parallel. meridians meet at the pole and are the widest part at the equator.Zero degrees longitude are called prime meridian.the degrees of longitude run 180 east and 180 west from the prime meridian.Lines of longitude are also called meridians. meridian tern comes from  a latin word that means midday. the sun crosses each meridian in the middle point between sunrise  and sunset.
