liquid generally have lower density as compare to solid but ice float on water . why

Though, it is in solid form, the first state of this solid was liquid which was converted into solid that is ice and this is known as (conversation of status of matter). That is why ice float on water in solid state.......

but ice has lower density than water. therefore it floats on water
