Liquid generally have lower density as compared to solids. But you must have observed that ice floats on water.
Find out why?

Answer:

this is because of anamolus behaviour of water

This is due to anomalous behavior of water.Water is different because of hydrogen bonding. ... Ice floats because it is about 9% less dense than liquid water. In other words, ice takes up about 9% more space than water, so a litre of ice weighs less than litre water. The heavier water displaces the lighter ice, so ice floats to the top.
