Ice has more volume than water. Which means ice has less density than water.

Why so?

When water freezes it expands. Which means it's volume increases and thus the molecules become loosely packed. When the particles are in liquid form they are closer to each other and thus they have more density

Density is inversely proportional to Volume.

Thus as ice has less density than water, it floats.
