Explanation:

Though ice is a solid it has large amount of space between its molecules. These spaces are large as compared to spaces in water molecules. Thus the volume of ice is greater than water. Hence, the density of ice is less than of water. A substance with low density than water can float on it.

Hope it helps you

--ANSWER--

Ice has small holes which are filled with air (and as the air covers more space and as it has covers more volume and has less density) , the density of ice decreases and being a solid, it floats on water.
