according to law of flotation
1st case
Volume immersed= mass of ice / density of liquid
2nd case
after melting
density of ice is equal to density of water
so
volume immersed= mass of ice/density of water
both are equal so volume is same
if density is less then substance floats on relatively denser liquid
for above equation
we divide by the high density in both cases
we divided by density of water so
density of water is greater than density of ice
