liquids generally have lower density as compared to solids . but you must have observed that ice floats on water. find out why??

pls ans. it

because ice have low density then water due to the presence of larger gaps between particles of ice.

particles of water is closer than the particles of ice so the as compared to water ice is less dense than water
and also one more reason or answer for this

according to law of flotation

1st case
Volume immersed= mass of ice / density of liquid

2nd case
after melting
density of ice is equal to density of water
so
volume immersed= mass of ice/density of water

both are equal so volume is same
if density is less then substance floats on relatively denser liquid
for above equation
we divide by the high density in both cases
we divided by density of water so
density of water is greater than density of ice

hope you understand
and it will help you
