liquids generally have lower density as compared to solids.But you must have observed that ice floats on water. find out why.

When water turns into ice it forms a cage like structure which is why the volume increases.
We know that density =mass/volume
So more the volume less is the density.
Hence the density decreases and ice floats on water.

Liquid has low density than solids but the ice floats on water because it has small pores present in the ice which helps them to float in water
