Ice floats in water because density of ice is less than water at 4 Celcius. Thus, water displaced by a given mass of ice is greater than that of water of the same mass. That means ice gets more buoyant force than a given mass of water that lets ice float on water.

Density of ice is less than the density of water.The low density of ice can be attributed to the small pores it was which allows it to trap air.Hence ice floats on water.
