As we know that D= m/ v
vol. of liquid is more than the solid
so its density lower than of solid...
Ice floats on water because its atoms or molecules are loosely packed not as that of a solid like bench, fan, table etc..
its mass is equal to the vol. of the water because it is freeze....
hence it follow the Archimedes principle..
