liquids have low density than solids but why ice floats over water?

beacuse ice has air bubbles which makes it's density as a whole lower than a liquid.

liquids generally have lower density as compared to solids but you must have observed that ice floats on water as the volume of the substance increases it's density decreases .though ice is a solid it has large number of empty spaces between it's particles
