Ice in fact it is solid but it has cage like structure and hence its molecules have more empty space as compared to water so it has smaller density then water and hence floats on water.

yes, liquid have low density as compared to solids.

but when the liquid cools then it form ice in a solid state .and therefore the density of ice is less than the density of ice . it's density is o.917 gram per centimetre cube and water is 1 g cm-3.thus the mass of the ice float on water.
another reason that why it floats is
due to upthrust which is the upward force exerted on the ice by fluid in which it is submerged, is called buoyant force
what makes the ice float?
