Lisa can travel 228 miles in the same time that Kim travels 168 miles. If Lisa's speed is 15 mph faster than Kim's, find their rates.

(x + 15) t = 228 
1) xt + 15t = 228 

Kim 
2) xt = 168 

Equation 1 less equation 2 
15t = 60 
t = 4 

Substitute t=4 in equation 2 
4x = 168 

Divide both sides by 4 
x = 42 

Kim's speed = x = 42mph 
Lisa's speed = x + 15 = 42 + 15 = 57mph
