New Delhi: Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swept the Lok Sabha elections. The saffron party won a clear majority, sweeping 282 of 543 seats, ten seats more than the halfway mark required to form government.
The party's coalition, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), won 336 seats. This was the first time since 1984 that a decisive mandate had been handed to a single party and in BJP president Rajnath Singh's own words, the BJP became the first party to emerge as the single largest party to form a government, after the Congress.
