PHYLUM PLATYHELMINTHES

  • This phylum comes under kingdom animalia.

  • The members of this phylum have flat body surfaces and are mostly endoparasitic in nature

  • This is the first phylum to have organ level of organisation.

  • These are the first triploblastic animals having three layers of body wall namely, ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm.

  • The members are bilaterally symmetrical.

  • They do not have body cavity called coelom and hence acoelomates.

  • Excretory organ is flame cells or solenocytes.

  • Some examples are tapeworms, blood fluke and liver fluke.

  • Bilaterally symmetrical, triploblastic, dorsoventally flattened.

  • Acoelomates

  • Their digestive cavity has a single opening with mouth only and anus is absent.

  • They have flame cells or proronephridia.

  • Mode of nutrition is parasitic.
  • Reproduction is of both types i.e. asexual and sexual.

  • These are hermaphrodite i.e. male and female reproductive organs are present in same animal.

  • e.g. - Planaria, Fasciola ( liver fluke ) , taenia solium , blood fluke
